Well, this should be interesting
The Supreme Court, today, heard arguments in Ayotte v. Planned Parenthood of Northern New England. From the name of the case, you probably guessed that it's an abortion issue. new Hampshire currently has an abortion law restricting minors from receiving an abortion without parental notification.
The case revolves around a very narrow issue: Whether the fact that there is no exception for emergency procedures could cause the entire law to be disallowed.
It should be interesting to see how Roberts votes....and even more interesting to see the reaction of both sides of this debate.
The watch-NASCAR-for-the-crashes in me wishes that this decision could be handed down during the Alito confirmation hearings.

What would be the significance of it being handed down during the hearing? Do you think any of the senators on the committee could even begin to use a fresh opinion to press Alito on abortion? I can't believe they would have the ability to be honest. The Roberts hearing, to a lay observer, was just one of the many embarassing moments in recent congressional history. When I feel I could've performed better than every senator, something is very wrong.
I don't know that the timing would be "significant" per se (or per say, if you insist), it would just be amusing. One side or the other of the always-passionate abortion debate will be angry when the decision gets handed down, and will demand the Senators take action to build on or knock downn that decision.
As a spectator sport, it will be better if the state wins.
I've not heard Alito speak. Have you had a chance? If so, what do you think the hearings will be like? A repeat?
I have not heard him speak. All indications are that there will be more....pointed...questioning of Alito. I think Democratic Senators are going to put up a show of asking him specific questions re: abortion, and he will get appinted (although there will be several votes against).
